Invitation from the WorkSafe Western Australia Commissioner
The WorkSafe Western Australia Commissioner invites holders of an Asbestos Removal Licence, to attend one of several seminars which will occur in the metropolitan area, Albany, Bunbury, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie and Karratha during May 2017.
The Occupational Safety and Health Regulations 1996 (the regulations), provide authority for WorkSafe to issue Unrestricted and Restricted Asbestos Removal licences. It is important that asbestos removal work is undertaken consistent with the regulations.
WorkSafe and the Department of Health have identified some important areas where holders of Asbestos Removal licences will benefit from information to help ensure their workplace activities comply with the regulations and the work is done safely. It is also worth noting that the Department of Health recently announced fines for failing to safely handle or dispose of asbestos have increased 10-fold in Western Australia. These regulations are relevant to removalists.
At the seminars, holders of Asbestos Removal Licences will be provided with information about their responsibilities under the OSH regulations and legislation administered by the Department of Health.
